Ways To Lift Your Mood When In A Slump

Sometimes life has its twists and turns, and things may not always be as streamlined or go entirely our way and then sometimes it does. Often, we may find ourselves in a slump when the process gets a bit too daunting or when sudden mishaps occur. It is okay and perfectly normal, and, in some ways, I believe it is natural. You’re not always going to feel or be able to give your best, and sometimes it could just be a phase, season, or hard time.

In today’s blog, I want to share five things that you can do that can help lift your mood when you’re in a slump.

1 Talk To Somebody and Share

Keeping things bottled up or trying to deal with downtimes/moments on our own can be tricky, and sometimes you may be in your head about things. When you are talking to a friend or family member or even as far as a counsellor, it could help ration out your thoughts and make sense of things and what exactly has got you in the slump. This could reveal many things and enable you to act to get out of this slump and back to your highly empowered and motivated self. I will advise that you use sound judgement when choosing who to talk to. It’s not everybody you can share everything with. It is important you feel comfortable enough and ensure that you won’t be misunderstood or made to feel stupid for being in a slump for whatever reason. Be sure to have a sound judgement of character in choosing who to relate with

2 Write Down Your Thoughts

Writing down your thoughts is like an option for you if you’re someone who does not like talking about your issues or finding it uncomfortable. If you’re a little more reserved, this one may work for you. I do both. Writing down your thoughts will help you unclog your mind and could be a great way to relieve stress to help you feel at ease. So much being kept in mind can be exhausting. Writing it down can be like a cleanse. I would also encourage reading over what you write; maybe you might reveal some things to yourself that wasn’t present when you focused on the negative.

3 Start Pursuing A Hobby Or Do Something You Enjoy

We all need something to keep us stimulated. When in a slump, something as simple as picking up a hobby like sports, gaming or reading could be a great way to pick you up emotionally and mentally. It also gives you something to look forward to. Having something like this almost shifts your mind away from the downs and allows you to focus on and do something positive. Reading has become one of my few hobbies and something I enjoy doing, so if and when I find myself in a slump, I know it serves me well to grab a good book and get lost in the pages.

4 Try Something New, Switch It Up!

You’re probably in a slump because maybe your life and routine have become a bit too mundane. You’re probably bored and sick and tired of the same old thing. From the way you start your day, the route you take to work, the kind of clothes you wear or even something basic like the layout of your room or home. Why not make a change in these little ways? Do something different to lift your mood. You can try taking a different route to work and see new surroundings, or even treat yourself to a new wardrobe of new stylish things you’ve seen that you like. It doesn’t have to be so complicated. Or something as simple as a day trip or weekend getaway will always lift your mood.

5 Decide You Want To Be Out of This Slump

In doing all these other things above, it is also important to decide. The older I’ve gotten, I have learnt and seen that nothing happens or changes unless you decide that it should. And in that decision, you should also have a desire for better. As much as life can always get us in a slump, it is important not to stay there as it can affect many things around you, from your mental and physical health, emotional stability, and relationships with friends and family.
