Why Do I Blog

Blogging is something I never thought I’d be doing 5 or 6 years ago. It is interesting how life works and how we fall into many areas and realise what we like, and what we could be good at or succeed in. Writing through blogging comes with its many benefits such as having an outlet of expression, connecting with other bloggers or writers, indulging in various content, and learning something, growing a business or brand, possible financial gain.

We all have our reasons for doing what we do. If you follow me on Instagram, you’d probably know that I talk or often share on the necessity of being intentional. I’ve grown to believe everything we do should and in various cases, does have a reason. The intention is where our awareness and conviction behind our actions and pursuits come in. I also spoke about this in greater detail on my recent blog post about things I did this year that changed my life. A big part of where my blog is at now had a lot to do with intention.

I started writing initially for a shoe customising brand I started in 2016/17 under the name PLG Designs and used to blog about sneaker customisation and fashion to add more flavour and context of inspiration behind my work at the time. If you look at my earlier posts, it is evident that the style of writing is different and the context. So, what changed? Why blog? What inspired this platform as an outlet?

I started this blog because I got bored of writing about fashion which led me to want an outlet to express myself. It was somewhat like a journal where I’d talk about various things based on myself and my challenges. I never intended to take it seriously, at first it was just something to do. Blogging served as something to give me more purpose outside of being a fresh graduate at the time. In the beginning, it was not about giving value to people, I didn’t even share my blog often unless I felt like it.

I’ve always had somewhat of an interest in writing. Since 2018 I became fascinated by people’s stories and their views and perceptions on life. A lot of these stories were of successors I valued for various reasons. I was inspired by them sharing their journey to their success and the ups and downs they went through. Eventually, I somehow felt like It would be good if I could share my ideas and tell my story like those people. I wasn’t about to be a YouTuber because I wasn’t confident in front of a camera. And speaking in front of a lot of people was not part of my skillset. So, writing would be my best outlet. Eventually, as I got grew confident with blogging, I wanted to add more purpose, so I made content based on lifestyle, fashion, and fitness. That lasted a good while but eventually fell out of love with the gym and fashion, although still a personal interest of mine, it dwindled when I couldn’t heavily invest in it financially.

After multiple breaks and inconsistencies, towards the end of 2019, I decided I would take a break and use the time to figure myself out and outline a purpose for what you see today as livingpf.com. I realised that my greatest passion was personal growth and self-development, especially my own. I had been consuming loads of content around that subject which helped me in various ways. Naturally, as I tend to be a giver, it only made sense to use this blog to share about myself and my experiences and what I learn as I grow. I hoped that through that, people would gain value from it. From mid-2020 that’s what I did, simply sharing blogs based on documenting me (Darren Owen) and also sharing lessons and knowledge on various aspects of life as I grow. The more I started doing that, the more I enjoyed blogging and giving as well as documenting became my reason for using it. It’s only this year I’ve started connecting with other writers and although it took a long time, I finally managed to reach 100 followers. Though it’s not all about numbers, I knew I wanted to grow this blog and connect with other bloggers and writers through it. This is the most consistent I’ve been with blogging since I somewhat restarted midpoint this year and I don’t intend on stopping. I’ve got a lot more to share and give.

Thanks For Reading

Sincerely Yours
